Design By Committee is a non-profit established to co-create the solutions to some of our biggest urban design challenges.
It's a collaboration of some of the UK’s best architects, designers, researchers and thinkers. Together, we can help to curate places that address the urgent needs of communities and the environment, by drawing upon some the UK's brightest design minds.
Design By Committee is a first. It lets the best ideas win by sharing ideas and knowledge, so we can democratise design amongst our peers.
For decades, the benefits of community involvement have been proven to be a powerful way of reinvigorating neighbourhoods, but what if the community doesn't exist yet?
That conundrum encouraged us to go upstream and create a community at the design level, a Design By Committee, but it works in all scenarios.
Right now, the most prestigious design awards are judged by peers after the project has completed. We’re flipping that on its head and amending designs to improve solutions from the get-go.
It seems so obvious now, we don't know how it's not been done before. We think it's a much better way to create new places and reinvigorate old ones.
